ECU Functionality

The Westport industrial engine control unit (ECU) is a microprocessor-based controller utilizing a Hitachi 32 Bit, 80MHz processor with 1-MB flash memory and 48kB SRAM. The ECU uses an external diagnostic CAN line with USB connection. Engine fueling is controlled using a speed-density algorithm (engine speed/manifold absolute pressure and temperature). The ECU supports fault diagnostics and provides such features as malfunction indication, limp-home capability and safety shutdowns. The Westport ECU is designed to control four cylinders and provide optimized engine performance, operability and safety over the full speed and torque range.
